Suckling pig is the kind of delicacy we usually have in formal Chinese restaurants, or when we're willing to purchase an entire roast piglet from a supplier.

That hardly makes for a convenient lunch, so Tiong Bahru Roasted Pig Specialist is filling a gap in the market.

The company has long specialised in suckling pig and other roasts. But it recently began selling suckling pig rice and lunch boxes ($6 per plate/box), giving everyone a chance to savour this traditional delicacy whenever they like, even for a simple weekday lunch.

You'll love the crackling-good crispiness of the skin atop each piece, fragrant sliver of fat and equally delectable layer of meat beneath. The skin has a naturally crinkly, crispy look and feel to it, unlike the super-waxed version in restaurants.

Besides suckling pig, you can order other roast-meat-rice lunch boxes, like char siew, roast duck and roast chicken ($2.50 - $3). Have them delivered, or tuck in at any of their 11 stalls or new family eatery. Their main stall is at the famous Tiong Bahru Market, with others in diverse locations including Amoy Street, Hougang and Jurong.

They deliver lunch boxes within the central business district (call the hotline before 10.30am to have your order of at least five packs by lunchtime) and islandwide (one day in advance; minimum 10 packs), with no delivery charge.

Don't miss the juicy and succulent char siew, with just the right amount of melt-in-the-mouth fat; or the tender roast duck with an aromatic herbal sauce from a secret recipe.

Apart from the lap cheong (Chinese sausage), all their meat is purchased fresh. The duck and chicken are roasted at their factory and sent to the stalls, while the individual stalls roast the suckling pig and char siew themselves for cooked-on-the-spot perfection.
