"Aangan" is an Indian term for "courtyard", and is associated with an area where family and friends enjoy each other's company over a meal.

Diners at the Aangan Restaurant get to do just that. Its comfortable and spacious interior is tastefully decorated in a Mogul-inspired style.

Patrons who come for dinner get to enjoy both authentic North Indian and Bangladeshi cuisines prepared by their master chefs, and nightly live Indian music performances as well.

During lunchtime, customers are treated to the ever-changing dishes featured in their Buffet Lunch ($16.50). A good selection of kebabs, vegetable and meat masala items, and at least five types of curries, were included in the spread during my visit.

I took an instant liking to the Chicken Korma - tender chicken chunks served in a creamy gravy, which is a flavourful amalgamation of sweet cashew oil, tangy pineapples and aromatic cardamom. The Chicken Tikka was also unforgettable; these well-flavoured and succulent chunks of meat had been marinated overnight in a blend of herbs and spices.

In addition to the fragrant Briyani Rice, the starch staples included an impressive collection of breads, such as the Butter Naan, Garlic Naan and Rumali Roti - a light and fluffy handkerchief-thin chapati. Freshly baked in the restaurant's tandoor oven, they complement all the savoury dishes and curries.

Foodies with a sweet tooth will be thrilled with their wide range of Indian and Bengali sweets, such as the Carrot Halwa, a popular North Indian dessert. This is a concoction of grated carrots, milk, ghee and assortment of nuts.

I also enjoyed the Rosh Malai. Though these patties of sweet steamed cream cheese are immersed in creamy rose milk syrup, flavoured with cardamom and topped with pistachios, they taste surprisingly light.
